Changes in Covid-19 vaccination and this year’s flu

Catalonia has already set date at the beginning of the vaccination campaign for the 2025-2026 season: It will begin on September 22 for risk groups, According to Europa Press.

The Ministry of Health of the Generalitat has advanced this date providing for a possible progress of the epidemic season between 2 and 4 weekshighlighting the importance of early vaccination.

The first groups to receive vaccines, as of September 22, include:

• Pregnant women.

Although the doses will be available throughout the season, the main activity will be concentrated from the beginning to mid -December.

Catalonia has chosen to maintain the criteria of previous seasons, recommending the vaccination against flu and covid from the 60 yearswhich differs from the suggestion of the Ministry of Health to raise the age for Covid at 70 years.

Regarding vaccination coverage in the 2024-2025 season:

Groups with higher vaccination rates included:

• People 80 years or older: 66.40% for flu and 56.50% for COVID.

• People 60 years or older: 46.90% for flu and 37.40% for COVID.

The coverage of flu vaccination in health personnel remained similar to the previous year, with 25.3%. By regions, Barcelona Ciudad and Lleida registered the best coverage, while Girona, the Penedès and the Central Catalonia had lower figures.
