The University of Burgos (UBU), in collaboration with the Provincial Council, will promote a project that aims improve muscle health in elderly people living in nursing homes.

The project Synergistic effect of creatine and β-hydroxy-β-methylbutyrate supplementation combined with multicomponent exercise on muscle functionality and health in institutionalized older peopleIn fact, it has turned out winner in the III Edition of Nutrition Research Grantsorganized by iSanidad with the collaboration of Herbalife, where the Scientific Committee of the jury highlighted the excellent health and scientific quality of nutrition research in Spain demonstrated by this project, which has been selected among the 42 presented to receive a financial award of 7,500 euros.

Juan Francisco Mielgo Ayuso, María Martínez Ferrán, Natalia Busto Vázquez, Mirian Santamaría Peláez, Juan Francisco Pérez López de Echezarreta, members of the Advanced Research Group in Integrative Physiology for Life (IAFIV) of the University of Burgos, and Álvaro da Silva González, medical manager of the Provincial Council’s residences, lead this research, which seeks to analyze how a combination of adapted physical exercise (strength, balance or mobility), more nutritional supplements (creatine and HMB), can improve the lives of older people living in these centers.

The results of the study, which will be carried out in the residences of the province, will be evaluated taking into account, as reported by the University in a statement, functional capacity parameterssuch as balance, strength and mobility, too body composition and quality of life.
