Castilla y León, through the Ministry of Health, has launched a new website which aims to improve care for women. Specifically, you can find links to training videosspaces for promotion of healthy habits and disease prevention, early detection and prevention programs, health workshops from the Castilla y León Patient School, links to Social Services websites about unwanted loneliness or caregiverseither information about emotional well-beingamong others.

‘Active Woman 50+ / 70+’
It also includes the link to the new programs Active Woman 50+ / 70+whose purpose is to offer a more specific and adapted care to the needs of this group, which represents 27% of the population in Castilla y León and which represents a large part of the population with chronic diseases, pain, fragility, dependency, caregivers or mental health problems, as they point out in a note.
These programs include training activities and educational materials for care. They are offered in workshop format and in each of the various health areas. Besides, expert women or “life mentors”that is, women who have overcome different diseases, will offer voluntary accompaniment to other women who are in similar situations that they have already gone through, under the supervision of health professionals.
The plan contemplates the implementation of two programs that offer specific content and an approach to the most frequent physiological changes, physical problems and emotional discomforts that occur after the age of 50:
- Active Woman 50+: includes cardiological and gynecological check-ups, screening for cognitive impairment and alterations in emotional health, promotion of healthy eating and physical exercise habits, and reinforcement of care for caregivers.
- Active Woman 70+: includes the assessment of frailty and the risk of falls, addressing nutritional aspects and detecting possible neurological diseases, evaluating emotional health and screening for cognitive impairment, as well as monitoring multiple pathologies and polypharmacy, and reinforcing support for female caregivers at these ages.
Guide for professionals
Furthermore, they have presented a new care guide to improve care for this group, aimed at professionals. It focuses on comprehensive care for older women.
Specifically, for the women over 50 years old are contemplated five specific applets for professionals: cardiovascular health, sexual and gynecological health, emotional health, care for the caregiver and active well-being and physical exercise.
And for the women over 70 years old will focus on three aspects: functional capacity and autonomy (assessment of frailty and risk of falls, nutritional and cognitive assessment); attention to unwanted loneliness; and attention to complex chronic pluripathology.
