The Spanish Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SEGG) and the Institute of Biomechanics (IBV) have come together to join forces with the objective of boost the health, well-being and quality of life of older people through science and technology.
Mr. Francisco José Tarazona SantabalbinaPresident of the SEGG, and Mr. José Javier Sánchez Lacuesta, Managing Director of the IBV, have signed a Framework Collaboration Agreementan agreement that establishes a line of collaboration, adding the clinical and social experience of the SEGG with the technical and social innovation capacity of the IBV, to carry out research work in areas of mutual interest.

The collaboration agreement will have a initial validity of two yearswhich may be renewed automatically for successive periods of one year, as reported in a note, in which they point out that, although the contract does not entail an immediate financial expenselays the foundation for each future project to have its own work plan, budget and detailed timeline.
In this sense, the President of the SEGG, who thus reinforces his objective of promoting the advancement of knowledge about aging and advising health organizations, highlighted during the signing of the agreement that this will allow advise health and social organizations based on technical evidence.
For his part, the Managing Director of the IBV, which thus consolidates its role as a technological center that develops and transfers scientific knowledge and technologies to improve the health, well-being and quality of life of people, emphasized that the exchange of training and scientific documentation will be key to design truly age-friendly environments.
Axes of scientific collaboration
Specifically, the agreement differentiates several priority areas that will be developed through specific agreements:
- Technologies for Longevity: joint projects on the usability, acceptability, effectiveness and functionality of technologies and gerontechnologies for the care of the elderly.
- Advice and Information: technical advisory activities and exchange of scientific documentation.
- Training and Dissemination: design of specialized training programs and scientific-technical dissemination actions for the sector.
