CSIF denounces the collapse of healthcare due to vaccination

The Independent Trade Union Center and Officials (CSIF) has denounced that the health services “they are getting stressed” throughout Spain with the start of the flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign, due to the absence of personnel reinforcements, which is causing the “saturation” of the agendas of health professionals.

“The worst is yet to come. With the arrival of the cold, the Emergencies, like every year, are going to collapse and our leaders do not take healthcare seriously. They have started the season with hardly any reinforcements, or at least they have not yet communicated the reinforcements they are going to hire,” warned the president of the CSIF national Health sector, Fernando Hontangas.

In this sense, the union organization has pointed to the 7,813 registered casualties in the health field in the month of September, which has been related to the precariousness of employment in the sector, with a temporality that has indicated that it still remains at 40 percent.

Likewise, he has asserted that there are 12 autonomous communities that have not incorporated reinforcements for the vaccination campaign; these are, Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Valencian Community, Galicia, La Rioja, Murcia and Navarra. Also provinces like Palencia (Castilla y León), Barcelona and Tarragona (Catalonia) they remain outside of specific contracting.

Faced with this situation, CSIF has demanded advance and coordinated planning throughout the country to organize vaccination actions and campaigns; the hiring of reinforcements in all professional categories; and the activation of Winter Plan by the autonomous communities to anticipate demand peaks.

Along with this, it has urged that sick leave, leave and replacements be fully covered, so that staff are not always at their limit; and allocate resources based on epidemiological surveillance, based on the data provided by the Acute Respiratory Infection Surveillance System (SiVIRA), from the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII), which already warns that infections have exceeded the epidemic threshold.
